Title:
Reasonable Doubts? Should We Really Trust Science?
Abstract:
In this talk I challenge the commonly endorsed idea that science ought to be trusted. I present and discuss evidence that in many areas of science published research is, more often than not, untrustworthy and that the mechanisms of error detection and self correction are unreliable. But if science is not to be trusted, it cannot be ignored either. I conclude by discussing what place science should have in our technologically advanced societies.
